The Perreaux 'E Series' power amplifier incorporates MOSFET units capable of driving and controlling every type of loudspeaker we know of. The quality of music reproduction is superb and rivals that of amplifiers which are far more expensive. This sound quality is partly due to Perreaux research into power supply and grounding effects on sonic quality, which has resulted in a more open and dynamic performance, without the addition of extra components, either active or passive, in the signal path. Additional reasons for the superb quality are those for which Perreaux is already well known.
The "E160" stereo power amplifier incorporates a heavy-duty power |
supply, including a large toroidal transformer and filter capacitors. Class A driver operation and class A/AB output stage operation, allowing most of the sonic advantages of pure Class A whilst avoiding all the associated problems. Meticulous attention to detail from design through component selection and preparation, to final assembly.
The power circuit incorporates heavy-duty wiring, two double sided and one single sided double thickness copper PTH mil spec fibreglass printed circuit boards. There are no extra devices that would normally be present to ’prop up’ less developed designs. By eliminating these superfluous electronic undesirables the Perreaux circuitry does not introduce obstacles between the
|
listener and the music.
Power MOSFET devices are inherently superior, providing immense power and stability. The Perreaux “E160” generates virtually no undesirable distortion and remains unconditionally self-stabilising up to extreme conditions. The Perreaux “E160” continues to produce a musical sound, even when driven to the limits of power delivery capability.
In conjunction with superior circuit design, the Perreaux “E160” stereo power amplifier requires no conventional output short circuit protection systems. The noise and distortion generated by these systems has been overcome by the use of rail fuses alone. Convection thermal management is achieved via custom designed external heatsinks coupled to the output devices.
