Reviewed by experienced and well-respected reviewer Ken Kessler, the eloquence 250i delivered "convincingly natural and real" treble attack and decay when used with his Wilson Audio Sophia 3 loudspeakers.
The Sophia's "big-bass-from-a-compact-enclosure was as well defined and palpable as if the Perreaux had been designed for and with them," Ken continued.
Rated at 250W the integrated amplifier was measured by Paul Miller and his lab report shows the 250i, in fact, delivered closer to "2x420W/8ohm and 2x670W/4ohm with a thundering 545W and 1kW, respectively, under dynamic conditions."
It's no wonder when Paul handed the 250i over to Ken it came with the warning: "It’s a beast – take care of your speakers!"
“...this joins a select group of single-box amps that will never betray its non-separates status. It behaves, unapologetically, in exactly the manner you’d demand of any high-end unit with vast reserves of power: with grace and guts. And eloquence.”
Thank you Ken, and the team at Hi-Fi News, for a fantastic review. We've long known that the eloquence 250i integrated amplifier is a special piece of gear, and it's reassuring to have this recognised with a Hi-Fi News Highly Commended award.
Thanks also to our UK dealer Audio Emotion for supplying the review sample.
