Last year we promised limited edition models to celebrate our 40th Anniversary. The first amplifier to receive the limited edition 40th Anniversary treatment is the eloquence 250i integrated amplifier.
The 250i is already a stellar amplifier, having received a number of awards and outstanding reviews, but we couldn't help but challenge ourselves to see if we could enhance its magic.
We've spent countless hours tweaking the 250i, auditioning various capacitors, resistors, cables, connectors, ICs... the list goes on.
Stuart, who owns an eloquence 250i, recently suggested the following reasons why you should never consider buying one:
1. Because the family might go hungry for a while
2. You will no longer need that expensive sub
3. You will have to find some other use for the hours you use to spend researching what amp next
4. You will realise that you might have great speakers but with this amp you might just start spending hours researching what speakers next
5. The wife will definitely start to complain re volume
Visit us at Portugal's Audio Show 2013, 15th-17th November at the Pestana Palace Hotel, where the Perreaux Audiant 80i and eloquence 250i integrated amplifiers will be demonstrated in association with our distributor Exaudio Portugal.
Reviewer Jörg-Peter Schimmel couldn't believe how tube-like the sound of the 250i integrated amp is...
“If I did not know better, I would have guessed in a blind test it was a tube amp...”
The best aspect of travel is experiencing how the other half live. Munich 2013 is a good opportunity to gain insights and to stop by distributors in other countries on the way to and from Germany. My first stop leaving New Zealand was Hong Kong.
HK is a seething megalopolis alive... buildings, cars, people and construction cranes are everywhere. The dynamic pace of life is quite an experience and being a part of its vibrancy is invigorating. Our HK distributor and his Chinese business partner spared no effort; taking care of everything for me. In return, I tried my best to listen and respond to the points they raised..
During his time with the 250i reviewer Jorqe Gonçalves uses Quad ESL-63 and B&W 802 Diamond speakers and "really liked this amplifier from Perreaux". He had this to say about the 250i's sonic performance:
“vivacity manages to combine beauty with timbre and, at the other extreme, an almost monstrous energy capacity.”
Reviewed by experienced and well-respected reviewer Ken Kessler, the eloquence 250i delivered "convincingly natural and real" treble attack and decay when used with his Wilson Audio Sophia 3 loudspeakers.
The Sophia's "big-bass-from-a-compact-enclosure was as well defined and palpable as if the Perreaux had been designed for and with them," Ken continued.
Rated at 250W the integrated amplifier was measured by Paul Miller and his lab report shows the 250i, in fact, delivered closer to "2x420W/8ohm and 2x670W/4ohm with a thundering 545W and 1kW, respectively, under dynamic conditions."
Thank you to our distributor in Taiwan, Sheng-Kai, for providing the review sample.
The reviewer thoroughly enjoyed their time with the 250i. Unfortunately we do not have a copy of the review translated into English, but feel free to read the review in Chinese.
Many thanks to our distributor in China, Kinetic Audio, for supplying the review sample.
